I’m Nick Miller. I’m 22 years old, and I'm an aspiring graphic designer.
My main love is music, and it is a love that has grown with me through the years. My tastes are predominantly in sub-genres of punk, rock, metal, and alternative, but I love being exposed to all kinds of music and keep an open mind to anything new I hear.
I also have a love for other creative fields, like cooking, art, poetry, film, fashion, architecture — the list goes on. I feel like there is so much to learn from each and any of these, and that knowledge gives much more insight on being a creative. As a designer, it would be a dream to work with these other creative fields.
My two biggest design inspirations are polar opposites: Josef Müller-Brockmann + David Carson.
Müller-Brockmann created some of the most beautifully simplistic yet provocative graphics, purely objective. His pieces strictly followed rules and principles to great effect.
Carson on the other hand rejected all of the rules, and designed purely on intuition. His style is maximalist, chaotic, and highly expressive, communicating in a much more subjective way.
In my study, I aimed to grasp and understand the rules and principles of design as quickly as I could, so I could learn how to successfully break them as well.
