a publication highlighting the sociopolitics in liminal spaces.
Non-place: a neologism coined by Marc Augé, are spaces that don’t confer a feeling of place.
The design aims to represent the dichotomy between the people and the liminal spaces. The devoid, brutal and cold atmosphere likened to the purely functional spaces; the distressing of the environments by the countless apathetic people navigating them. Uncomfortably large areas of negative space used for visual tension echo the social disconnect people experience in such a place.
The photography places subjects in ways that conceal their individuality and strip them of personality. Dissociation, anxiety, depersonalisation, a loss of direction, and a disconnect with people, are all explored visually through creative and expressive techniques in manipulating manual exposure and focus.
